Greetings!!


just picked up a 99 cherokee se to play around with, the ole lady had (still has) a 2000 on 31's when we met and i really started to miss my 03 sahara. but im not a single guy anymore, and i need the carseat accessability.

when i got it the e brake dummy was on. other than that this thing is stock runs like a top great feeling tranny, solid suspension and nice interior for its year. 160000 mi on a 4.o with no blow by or funny exhaust didn't bother me a bit. valid inspection for the next eleven months when bought, (a real pa inspection, not the purchased kind)

only the other day my heater quit working. no biggie, enter the google, see what i could be up against outside of the mechanical. ie thermostat, heater core type stuff. learned a lot, troubleshot a lot, narrowed it down that either i was missing a vacume somewhere or it simply must be my ***** were up a creek. thats fine, at least it wasnt the damned blend doors. so, today after work (on the way to the junk yard mind you) i stopped for coffee and when i started back up, the abs dummy stayed on. "hrm", i sez. as often happens about 3 seconds after i burnt my soft bits attempting to manage my coffee and market st traffic, a light bulb went on, i flipped my heater on. HEAT. ..... i immediately pulled into a toms, shut it down and attempted to duplicate the scenario. NO ABS LIGHT this time. "DRATS!!", sez i. (cause man, its gettin cold around here, quick). but the heater is still working.

now im a dont fix it if it aint broke kinda guy. which is nice cause i can stop fiddling with the heat system. however, something IS broke, and i AM a preventitave maintinence sort. im not trying to screw off and be happy till this thing bugs out on me when its 2 below. other than the circumstances listed above, the gas guage is inop and has never decided to be..."op". i had assumed that this was a result of a bad sending unit (super common in 90's rides), or possibly the guage itself, gonna swap guage clusters altogether as this one has nothing but mph and dummies, the rear window wiper doesn't work. (i have NOT troubleshot this at all, i.e, i don't know if it has power to it, or to the switch) when i bought it i really didn't care whether it worked or not.

my father restores cars and bikes and i have tons of exp in the 60's and back department. mechanical is no prob. electrical/computer type is just not my area of expertise. give me some ideas fellas. and take it to a shop is not an option or a possibility. we do have a handheld, but the old man is on vaca, so it will be a few days before i can plug in and see what gibberish pops up code wise. i have a feeling that may be misleading anyway given the nature of the issue.
