Default Heater control valve question

So i'm not getting any heat. I had a shop replace the water pump a few years ago and my heater work till a month ago. Today i replaced the thermostat it was stuck open, but still no heat. Then someone mentioned a heater control valve. How can i tell if its a bad heater control valve or heater core?

Not all XJs had heater control valves.

Only til 1996.

How warm are your heater hoses getting?

Just get rid of the valve. Pick up 3 feet of 5/8 hose and 3/4 hose. Your heater core will thank you for not leaving standing coolant in it all summer long.

So both the hoses going to the heater control valve is really warm. But going from the control valve to the fire wall the bottom one is warm the top one is cold. Would that be the valve or heater core?

Sounds like ditching the valve may be the solution.

So keep the hoses going to the same places just bypass the control valve, but will it cause any air bubbles? i am going to auto parts store later and get some hoses.

It might, just top off your coolant and burp the system as needed.

Flush the **** out of your heater core with a garden hose while you have the hoses disconnected.

Listen to this guy. also, you could get a set of preformed heater hoses for a 97 and later Cherokee and be done with it.
