Exclamation Heat Not Working? Help haha!

Upstate New Yorker here lol, and with these harsh winters heat in a vehicle is like gold. Well my good ole 2000 Cherokee SE XJ seems to only blow air for AC and Heat when its on the highest setting. Not only does it only blow heat on the highest setting, but it takes FOREVER to heat up. My guess is upwards of an hour or more. So my question is this, I looked into the blower motor resistor, and I plan on replacing that soon. But could a cause of no heat be a heater core? Thermostat? The blower motor itself? Something I dont know about haha? If I cant figure it out through someone on here then I will have to break down and bring it to the jeep dealer. Thanks for the help! LEt me know what you guys know!

Ok so I will definitely be doing the resistor fix.

As to the coolant, I'm assuming you mean engine coolant/antifreeze? I have not checked it but now that you mention it I'll have to do that. Could that be the cause?

coolant carries heat into the cabin. no or low coolant could be an issue. or maybe someone used mostly water and its frozen?

having the blower on high all the time may slow down the heating process too.

is it literally an hour to get warm air into the car? what is a realistic time frame to when it starts blowing warm air?

It is pretty realistically close to an hour. Thats from cold start, to blowing on high. When the car is warmed up it takes maybe 20-30 mins. But I have driven it and havent smelled anything hot or burning or a nasty smell. Wouldnt no or low coolant produce a burning smell?

If the temp gauge warms up to normal, but still no heat, then yeah, flush the heater core. If the gauge doesn't come up to normal for an hour, then you probably need a new thermostat.

The heat/cool control **** may not be functional. I rode in my sons XJ yesterday no heat engine water @210*. I fooled with it for 2 min and found the problem that was it. We went to the local JY and they had one on the shelf $25 we went home and in an hour and BAMM heat.
