Heat / AC defrost and floor only.
97 Cherokee 4.0
Heat and AC works through defrost and floor vents only. I can see that all the actuators are moving however it looks like the panel / demist actuator arm is moving to the side slightly like it is loose or the lever is broken. Because of its location, I cannot see the door lever only part of the actuator arm. If the panel / demist door lever is broken would my problem be an accurate result? Also, after removing the dash, is it possible to open up the heater / AC case without discharging the AC system? Could I get the top half of the case off without taking the case out of the vehicle? Has anyone had this problem? If yes, how did you fix it?

Typically this results from low vacuum. Check the line from the vacuum reservoir bottle to the firewall for breaks, particularly in the area around the battery.
This often first shows up when airflow shifts to defrost and floor vents during acceleration.

All of the actuators are moving through their full ranges its not a vacuum leak.
