I did mine last year, and replaced it with black headliner from eBay. As what other said, the key is the glue that you use. I have a 3M glue that worked great, but what you need to watch for is to not spray too much, as it will go through the material and you end up with white glue spots. If you clean the headliner to the fiber, it should be fine.
As for the speaker box, I spray painted the speaker covers with flexi-dip, so it is all black. The visors are a bot more tricky, so make sure to keep the old material so you can cut the same size.

I added the head console to the headliner as well, and painted that one black too. Overall a nice combo.
