Default Headliner issues, whered I go wrong?

So, i saw another thread where a guy redid his headliner with fabric from jo ann fabric. So i went, and wound up buying the same material. All the fabric at this store is the same width, so I figured the width would be good. I got it plenty long as well.

Heres how the guys from the other thread came out

Heres mine, obviously a few inches too narrow??

Wth??

No I did not stretch it out.. I never read anything about others doing that? And even where the plastic meets up, im still a couple inches too narrow..

What kills me is that the other guy whose pic I posted, stated he got his from jo ann fabric. So did I! Same material! All their stuff is the same width, I just dont understand!

idt its going to stretch 4 to six inches like you need it too. Go buy something wider, If you get it to fold over the back side like i did it wont droop. did you already cement it down ?

Haha, this must be a cost cutting measure at JoAnn fabrics. I don't think you were supposed to notice.

The fabric will stretch. Also, it might be the same pattern, but it could be a different fabric. Joanne's has certain patterns repeated across different blends of fabric (cotton, fleece, poly/cotton & so on). If possible, you should ask the guy you're copying what type of fabric he used. If you wanna take it a step further, have him send you a sample of the fabric. At the very least go back to Joanne's and ask them if that design comes in a different fabric.

I did mine from fabric from Jo annes and it was plenty wide. Mine isnt the same pattern obviously. But if all of the fabrics there are the same width I would say someone cut yours narrower at some point. I didnt stretch mine more then to just get it to lay smooth either. It was wide enough already.

if I were you I would go back with a tape measure and see what was going on.

If you count the vertical rows of patterns in your pic you have 11 rows if you count in the other guys pattern he has 12. I would say that would make your liner about 6 inches narrower then the other guys.

I think its a waste of money if that headliner won't cover it all up... If you could return it and get a wider replacement then that would be better...

that sucks man, I got mine from joanns and it was plenty wide enough. looks like they must have different sizes. I would return it if you can and measure this time.

According to the following link fabric bolts are available in three standard widths: 36 inch, 44/45 inch and 54 inch. Looks like out of the three, you chose the one that will not work. Good job, go buy a lottery ticket! ;-)

Default Dude...go here

I just replaced my headliner in a 1991 limited cherokee with the STOCK color and material from this place....http://www.wlsheadliners.com/cheroke...-kit-p-10.html

It is PERFECT...looks like new and was easy.... I did seal the headliner back board( fiberglass strand that is compressed) with Kilzall oil paint and then I coated with a coat of glass resin to stiffen it up and make sure the adhesive would have a non porous surface to go on to.

I had the outfit do my shades too because they have lighted mirrors and I want the shades to look good knowing I can sew.

My headliner and shades look factory and NEW..

If you want to change the color just dont order the factory color.
