take your sun visor and lights out of the vechicle pull the headliner becareful not to break it. clean the old liner and glue of then glue new on and cut holes for wire of the lights and speakers.

so it just pops out?

Where does it get screwed in?

I thought you had to work upside down when you put the new camo in..?

I didnt have experience when i did my first, just took my time and thought it through.

You'll need to remove all the trim, visors, and lights. Theres a few clips towards the rear that hold the back of it up, these pop out. In the earlier XJ's i'v done there was velcro above the windshield... laters dont seem to have this. They are held in by the visors.

Once you have the headliner out pull the old material off. I use either a vacuum with a brush attachment or a small hand cleaning brush to remove all the old foam. Then it's clean enough to recover.

Take your material and place it over the headliner backing. trim so you have several inches around all edges. Fold back half the material and spray adhesive on the backing and the material allowing it to tack between coats. Then slowly lay the material down starting in the middle. A second hand helps here till you get the hang of it. Then fold the other half back and repeat.

Allow to dry. Then turn it over and trin the ares where the lights and visors go through.. you'll easily see these areas. Then use adhesive to glue the overlap to the backside of the backing.

Grab a bud and have him help you reinstall.

If you are just looking to replace a missing or sagging headliner how far down into Virginia are you?..There are a number of do-it-yourself junkyards around Baltimore here where you`d be able to just buy a complete headliner with the foam backing and just pop it into place right out on the parking lot..If you are looking for something fancier it seems a lot of these guys have done some great jobs installing custom stuff.

it was my brother and I's first time. it was super easy if you are patient. don't be shy on the glue (but don't over do it), make relief cuts on the back around any pain corner to decrease wrinkles, work out any wrinkles once glue gets more tacky, and like Overland said, be careful with the visors. look online to see how to take apart.

ill let you do a headliner for me

I believe we just re used whatever stuck onto the headliner.

We also left a 4" or so border of fabric before we wrapped it around back to make sure there was enough.
