Ok So what's the verdict?
I understand that upgrading the wire harness will make a difference, but is it OK to use the SilverStars on the stock harness without burning anything up?

Here's something to consider if it is worth upgrading the wiring harness and will not cost very much or take too much time to perform.
Pull one of the headlights out, but leave the plug connected. With the lights on. take a piece of 16 gauge wire or larger and temporarily attach one end to the battery and touch the other end to the appropriate electrical contact on the back of the headlight. There should be enough room between the connector and headlight to do this. If you see a change in light intensity your stock wiring harness is not adequate and may want to correct this first before changing headlights. It’s best to test at night.
On my wife's Cherokee the difference was considerable. Measuring the voltage at the headlight with them on, they were only getting 11.0 volts with battery voltage reading 12.5 (1.5 volt drop). 1.5 volt drop may not seem like much, but the light intensity is drastic.
