I checked those and the 4 on the drivers side aren't it the 4 on the passenger side are for the AC clutch, fuel pump, starter, and another I'm forgetting.
Looked through the forum too and people mention it, but never say where it is.

okay, no such thing as a headlamp relay, its wired through a fog lamp relay which( if factory equipped is directly mounted behind the driver side headlight.

anyways, pulled the wiring and this problem is caused my a multifunction swith malfuntion.
this switch controls cruise control, turn signals, wiper blades, high beams/low beams, etc.
and... autozone, napa, and checker do not carry such part..

Junkyard, did you check rockauto? So how did you find out it was the multifunction switch? Also there is a circuit breaker for the headlights on the fuse box.

when i was at the junkyard last week there were no xj's with a salvageable steering culumn. havent checked rock auto.

i didnt find a circuit breaker.
what i did was switch a relay with the fog lamp relay and they worked, swapped back and still worked. so i flicked my brights on and off and lost my low beams. i continued to switch between and 60% of the time i lost the lows.

got pointed in the right direction by a napa worker though. he had this same issue on his girlfriends cherokee so he told me to test that switch. napa people are great.
