headlight problem

headlight problem

Has anyone ever had a problem where the dash lights come on, but not the headlights, when the switch is pulled? Brights only work if you hold the indicator like youre turning brights on. HL switch? Wiring? I have no idea where to start looking. 95 XJ

It was a switch for me the first time, second time a wire under the trans tunnel causing an earth :/ would go for switch first

Thanks, im really hoping its just the HL switch since I can get one with a warranty for $13.

The design of our lighting system sucks. I can't even remember how many headlight switches that I've gone through in my two XJ's in the last few years. The best thing you can do is after replacing the switch and cleaning the connector is to install an aftermarket headlight harness that uses a couple of good relays.
