Default Head Question?

Well it looks like I will be picking up another XJ next week! Its a 99 from a fellow member, that needs a head gasket and possibly a head, but I figured to be safe I will try to look for a good head to save some trouble in case the one is cracked.
Anyways, its a 99 4.0L and I know 96-99(?) has one style head, and either 99 or 2000 starts the new heads that are prone to cracking.. So should I be looking for a 96-99 head? Any from the wrangler or GC the same?
Also wheres the best priced place to getting a head gasket or gasket set? Any particular brands you guys prefer or to stay away from?
Thanks!

Bump!
I know plenty of you have done head gaskets and have either positive or negative feedback on gasket brands or suppliers!
And someone has got to know the changes in heads from year to year, you guys are too smart not to

On the 99 you can use an earlier head,00-01 had the coil packs so you needed the 0331 casting head .I would save the headache of a used head and spend 300-400 for a new aftermarket head and start out fresh.

Thanks! I knew my 2000 had the coil packs and didn't know if they started in 00 or 1999.
Well I was looking into getting a reman head, but if I can find a decent used head for a great price (like $100) I would just to get it home and run for winter, then mess more with it if it ever gave me a problem.
