Unhappy Have power but not starting

I got home from the store and an hour later when I tried to leave, the thing would not start. When I turn the key to start it I have full power (lights, radio) but nothing happens. Starter does not turn over. The key feels like it does not turn forward as far as it should. When I hold the key forward, trying to start it, the brake light on the dash comes on.

I've looked around here and thought it might be the NSS, but I've tried starting it in N with no improvement and my R lights work fine.

What do you think?

Default have power won't start

My '93 GCL had the same symptom.. it would start fine if I jumped the solenoid switch on the starter, so I guessed it was something in the ignition switch/linkage. I searched for a how to on google, removed the switch and replaced it. Now I have a separate key for the ignition, but I guess a locksmith could make it work with the original keys. Good luck

Have you tried giving it gas while you start it? Just yesterday I was charging my phone and listening to music while working on it for a few hours. It drained enough power I couldn't start but powered everything. Basically I just gave it gas to get it started and once it started I kept my foot on the gas for several minutes and it let the alternator charge the battery. Then I drove it for like 20 minutes just to make sure.

Good luck.

Default I'll try the ignition switch

red82, I had tried the gas.

kjc, I'll check into the ingnition switch. I do not know how to jump the starter to check it but I'll look it up. Is there a way to use a multimeter to check it? Thanks for the help.

I was going ahead with the NSS rebuild, but it was not coming out. Not a chance. So I put it back together. I hope the ignition switch is an easier job.

Any other thoughts or recomendations are still welcome. Thanks.

When I went to replace the ignition switch I found a broken acuater pin. So I replaced both the pin assembly and the switch. Fired right up. Thanks for the help.
