Hatch Problems

Does anyone else have the problem of your hatch not locking into place? I have a 87' (I dont know if this makes a difference) and usually it takes a good 2-3 slams for the back hatch to actually close and lock into place. Also when I drive it rattles back and forth like crazy. I've noticed the actual locking mechanism is pretty rusted but I'm not sure if this is the problem or not. Any advice or help would be appreciated!

Same issue on my 91. My husband went to the store and came back red faced. Stacked 4 cases of pops back there, went to leave & didn't notice the hatch had opened. He returned home with only 1 case. SMH

I'm actually going to tinker with it tomorrow. I know its been cleaned & lubed & its hitting the striker as far as I can tell. So we'll see & if I figure anything out I'll let ya know.
