Default “Hatch open” light will not turn off

Hello, I bought my 99 XJ several months ago and ever since I bought it the red open hatch light on the dash has been on. I’ve looked around for a button or something that presses when the hatch is closed but can’t seem to find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This part: https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/part...atch_hinges,,3

controls the light on the dash for the lift gate. It could be disconnected, it could be broken, it could be not seated correctly.

The switch is inside the hatch and the detents wear out on them. They're just plastic, so don't hold up very well. You have to remove the plastic hatch panel to get to it. Best to replace with a new one as junkyard ones often are just as bad. Also, make sure the hatch is firmly closed. Some people have to slam theirs shut to get it to seat properly.
