Default Hatch Lifts

Hey, Im Rob and just picked up a 98 classic today in dark green wih only 108k. Great car just one problem is that the Hatch will open but not stay up unless i hold it up. I guess the spring-air thing or whatever the two rods that hold the trunk up are dead. So haas this happened to anybody before? How expensive is the parts because im pretty sure i could do it with the help of my father or a buddy. Thanks, Rob

They come in different lengths so they are application specific.

i had to remove my trim on the body part though, the ends are quite a bit bigger

Got mine at the junkyard 5$ for the pair. I think they are replacements but worked so well on the hatch at the junkyard figured might as well replace my worn out ones. finally found a center console lid that wasn't broken as well got that for 5$ too. Who knows what is next for my xj. ohh and rockauto is pretty well known and always been reliable for me.
Thanks,
Lee

Hey no problem. I used to go to oreilly and autozone. Now I order 100-150$ from rock auto a month and I'm almost done replacing everything I need to replace, which was a lot of things!
