When I pull up the e brake it wont hold. I got down into it, but dont see why the cog doesn't hold on the teeth of the frame of the brake. If I could figure out how to remove the cable, maybe I could take it out and file on the teeth so that it grabs. Any ideas..

You're just talking about the lever itself, correct? On my '92 there's just an adjustment nut underneath the truck that you can take off to remove the cable. I'm not sure how they are on the '98 though, I don't think it's too different!

I got it out yesterday. The cog that "bites" on the row of teeth is chipped off. I would have to drill out the rivet that holds it together to get to the cog. I dont know even then if I could grind it back to where it would work. Cant find them on the net. I'll try the junkyard. Worried that if I get a used one, that they may be worn too.
