Default Had my Jeep towed, have a question.

I moved about a year ago and had my 87 (non running) Cherokee towed. The tow truck driver put it's rear wheels on a dolly with the fronts on the ground and the steering locked. The Jeep has the np242 transfer case with stock open differentials. If I remember correctly the transfer case was put in neutral. I asked him if he was sure the Jeep was ok to tow this way and he said yes but I would thought I would ask here. The Jeep was towed about 30 miles total, about 1/3 city driving (25-35mph zones) and about 2/3 freeway not exceeding 60mph. Does this sound like it would cause problems/damage?

A guess..... I'd say no if it was all in neutral... The front axles turned, but IIRC the transfer case wouldnt have been turning. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

I am not sure with putting the transfer case in neutral or anything but last time i towed my jeep, i marked the driveshaft where it was before i removed it. Removed it and traveled from Virginia to Texas, but then again my rear axle was on the road while the front was lifted.

Transfer case in neutral and the transmission in park or in gear if manual is the correct way to tow it.

With a NP242 the front axle and driveshaft always turns when driving as there is no disconnect.

I don't see how this is any different, even if it was in 2wd. (well, turning backwards in this case)

Yes it turns the chain in the t/case, but if it's in 2wd, that shouldn't effect anything. The t/case in neutral is an added safety point so the shift ring moves a bit, it won't chew up the engagement teeth. Around me people always flat bed a 4wd just for liability.
