Well if what I have read is correct it's just a different type of gas in the bulb itself..I could be wrong...

That was my understanding but a buddy said that more light is gonna require more juice and generally speaking that would be correct, but the exotic gas may have changed the equation. Thus the question about current draw.

The Xenon bulbs at quadratec are the good ole 65/55 so I's say it has to be the exotic gas they use causing a brighter light..

But does that gas require more amperage to glow brightly or does it glow more brightly from the same amperage? Exotic means that it glows brighter but how does it do it? Is it electrical or chemical in regards to the glowing property of the bulb? Don't know how else to phrase the question.

It might be all in my head, but it's a nice bright white light as opposed to a dull yellowish light. I'm no light scientist or electrician. I plan to upgrade the lighting wiring harness this summer and then I should see a more significant increase.

BIGoffroad sells ones, but their site is currently down, here's a writeup on it though: http://www.opiebennett.com/tech/headlight/index.htm. I believe it's only like $45 or something.

Also, here's how to make one yourself: http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm

From what I've read, this is the single biggest improvement, even with stock headlights.

Ebay has a lot of options as far as headlight upgrades.
They also have some globes that have black-chrome reflectors in them too that look friggin awesome!

And if anybody thinks this question is a hijack, just tell me and I'll post it in a new thread... But does anybody make a round headlight conversion for the XJs? Just a novelty thing that I thought would be kinda cool...

No kit or conversion, but it has been done.

This one was done by grafting 2 CJ7 Grilles together. He goes by Cruzin Illusion on NAXJA and JeepForum. http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=74113

I can certainly agree. I have about 60 bucks invested in my headlight conversion.

I paid 35 bucks for the autopal lenses and bulbs off of ebay. I bought a couple relays and seriously upgraded the harness. Took me all of about 30 minutes to put together.

The autopal lights are simple housings that use a 9003 light bulb that can be found at any auto parts store and many different wattages. Autopal sends 55 watters. I opted for 100 watt bulbs. With the harness upgrade and bulb upgrade the difference in incredible! Well worth 60 bucks!
