Default growling noise

I have a 89 limited with the 4.0 and auto trans. There is a loud growling it makes sounds like maybe the abs pump or something it is annoying as heck. Any clues to what it really is and what to do about it ty.

Have any more details on the noise? Like when does it do it? All the time? Sometimes? Where does it sound like its coming from?

It makes the noise most of the time, its like it gets up to pressure then stops for a few seconds then starts again. Its not constant its almost like it pulses? Sounds like its in the engine bay maybe the right hand side looking out from the jeep.

The power steering pump can make growling noises. Does it make a louder noise when steering? When stopped, turn your steering wheel back and forth...does the growling noise get louder?

Will it do it at idle and not moving? If so have a listen under the hood and see if you can pinpoint it.

Also x2 on the power steering pump. Mine will make a growling noise when I'm backing into the drive way and turning.

Its not power stearing for sure. Its coming from the passenger side in the engine bay right up next to the cowling. Looks like a small canister. Its part of the anti lock brake system. I just want to disable the abs but not sure how to do that

Bump

That might be a road you don't want to go down.

We really would like to help. On e of the best pieces of information is the description behind the issue.

In this case I would ask when does it happen again?

All the time?
In park, drive, or neutral?
when you hit the brake?
While driving?
Corners? (wheel bearing maybe?)
Acceleration?
Braking on wet pavement with mud tires?
