I have a 2000 Cherokee sport. Here’s my story. When it ran it would stumble as it idled and get worse the longer it idled and if it sat for more than 4 or5 days the battery would go dead. I started using my company truck so it sat for about a year, now I’m trying to bring it back to life. The battery is dead, so I tried to start it using jumper cables and it still won't start. I saw a little bit of smoke around the fuse box, so I immediately took the cables off and it stopped. I pulled the fuse box apart and looked for burnt wires and found nothing. Thinking this might take more than a few hours, I moved it into my garage I tried again about a week later with just a standalone batt. this time no smoke. I checked for spark the normal way with screw driver no spark. When I turn the key to the on position the asd relay starts buzzing. I’m sure I have a ground problem but where do I start?

What is the cps? sorry if thats sound stupid. I've been wrenching on vehicles my hole life, but, very work on a jeep.

 

got it camshaft position sensor, i asume thats to fix the idle right

 

no this might have something to do with no spark

 

disconnect battery and pull fuse box so you cna see the back of it check for bare wire sound like a critter got in there and di some chewing maybe causing wires to touch
