I'm chasing down some electrical issues that I posted about last week in this thread https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/bad...ulator-228879/. My hunch is that a bad ground is causing these sporadic symptoms, so I cleaned up the grounds in the engine bay. What I specifically want to address is the grounds for the dash, particularly the lighter sockets and ignition switch.

I pulled up some info on ground locations in this thread https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/int...-wires-164364/ where cruiser54 points out the ground locations for Renix-era XJs in post #2 and CCKen offers some advice about the IOD circuit in post #8. What I can't seem to find are the two ground locations up under the dash referenced here:

There is the ground to the lower diagonal dash brace to the left of the steering column.

The one on the instrument panel brace grounds a ton of things. Probably too many things as a matter of fact, given it's poor mounting point on the brace with a self tapping screw. I remove the screw that it's held on with, extend the wire, using the same gauge or bigger, and terminate it to the stud near the fusebox.

I've pulled off the lower panel under the steering column and couldn't find anything. Am I looking in the wrong place, or has the design changed in '97+ Cherokees? Does anyone have pointers or pictures to help me find these grounds?

 

What's wrong with these circuits that you think you need to find their ground points?


The Cigar Lighter is grounded at G107, far right corner of the dash, and the Ignition Switch at G108, far left corner of the dash.


Unless the HVAC unit was removed, these grounds rarely are bad.
