Hello,
I have a ‘99 XJ that makes a grinding sound when I let off the gas. It also has new leaf springs shackles that add an inch or two. I’m not really sure I did this repair a little over a year ago and admittedly when I did this I did not know I would be adding any lift. It also has drive line vibrations at 30-40 mph but after that it is smooth sailing.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to start?
thank you!

Where does the noise seem to come from? Have you checked the u joints on the drive shaft? Lift the back end up and spin the tires by hand to see if you can replicate the sound. Pinion bearing maybe?

The grinding sound and vibes could be related.
Things to possibly check:
- U-joints on rear driveshaft
- Pinion angle
-Take the cover off of your rear differential to inspect

Hello all so I changed the axel bearing on the rear passenger side. Now I have a wah sound on n driver side rear.
Looks like I am changing the driver side bearing this weekend. My question is…how do I know if my pinion and carrier bearings are not making the sound I am hearing?
thank you for your help.
