I found a nice set of grand cherokee buckets today for $50...Havent bought them yet and need some input.
Looking at the floorboard contour the bases look different. Will the XJ base brackets be a direct bolt up to the Grand seats?

My 93 has pivots on each side by the door, and the grand split i looked at had mounts in front of the seat not on its sides.

I bought a set of Grand Cherokee seats (front buckets and rear 60/40) and here is what I found.
Front Buckets:
For my 1989 XJ 2 door the seat track bolts don't line up at all. My stock manual tracks have the rocker option where the track has a separate part that moves the base like it's on a skate board half pipe (I hope that makes sense). Because the track top is curved it doesn't match any of the bolt holes for the 1995 Grand Cherokee seats. I think I will do it right by buying a metal plate to bolt to the seat. I'll need to fabricate something to drop down from the plate to match the mounting bolt holes on my "rocker" tracks. The "rocker" bolt holes are not on a flat plane.
I also need to take apart my newer 1995 bucket frames to see what metal I need to cut to have the seat fold forward so people can have access to my back seat. I don't have any friends so there's no need for it, but you never know. Maybe I'll get a friend!?! I'm injured so these fixes will take me about a year!
Rear 60/40:
I have yet to try to install the rear seat, but some modification will be needed. The Grand Cherokee is actually 1"-2" wider inside than the Cherokee XJ's. The back seat is wider than the stock Cherokee seat. Anyone swap one successfully? If so how? Thanks!!!

The MSN Autos site is a wealth on knowledge. To get there on your own go to www.autos.msn.com Look for Used Cars. Scroll down to Jeep and then what model you want. All years pop up showing the years for each group of years. It tells everything. Click on your year and navigate using the menus above the info for the car. To get to the measurements click on Specs and then interior or exterior. ONE MAJOR benefit of the site is in the Reliability section. Not only does it put a good, Questionable or Bad make for the different areas, but it tells you what the problem is and how much they estimate to fix the problem. It could be something that will go bad once so you might still want to get the used car and fix it. At the bottom of the vehicle reliability chart it shows all oth the years for that vehicle. There you can see if a certain year is more reliable than the rest. I think they use records from repair shops for their information. Good luck!!!
Here are the seperate links to research used cars on the MSN Autos site:

If you're in the site and want to switch vehicles just click MSN Autos at the top and look for Used Cars.
There is this link of a guy that did it. It won't let me in though
