Default Got the rubs...

My buddy is thinking of trading his Yj for an Xj heads up. The Xj has a 3.5 inch rusty's lift w/31" tires. The tires rub while reversing with the wheels turned. Any ideas on why or how to fix it? I think this might be the only thing turning him off from doing the trade.

And yeah, the YJ is a 4 banger and has a 4" RC lift w/33's.

its tire rub, not the end of the world, i run 37" tires on the same lift, chances are you just need to cut away a half inch of plastic you can't even see to eliminate the rubbing

Sounds like rubbing on the control arms. What wheels does it have? you can get aftermarket wheels with an offset to prevent the rub or you can get zj arms ( i think) which are curved to avoid rubbing.

It's really nothing to worry about....

Tell him about me. I traded my 4 banger TJ with 33's for this 6 cyl XJ on 31's. It's a night and day difference!

What he is trying to say is that the 4.0 > 4cyl under any circumstances.

Well, he brought over the Xj and we found the problem. About a 1/2 inch needs to be trimmed off of one of the corners on driver side front flare.

Also we're trying to identify the lift. We know it's Rusty's but don't know if it's a 3" or a 3.5"? It has add a leaf.

Btw, looks like he's gonna do the trade...

Rusty's has a bolt on 3" AAL and a 4.5" AAL. With a combo of other parts it could be more, but just the kit will be 3".

Yes but do miss the doorless/topless experience. Spring came around and i see tj's without their doors and tops and then i look at the xj... I'll get over it.

The 4.0 is worth the trade. There are hills i couldn't get over 45 mph (highway) in the tj and i easily go 65 (pedal only 1/2 way down) in the xj. 4-hi actually works for once since i have power to use it. The tj was in 4-low all the time.

I had the 4.0 in my Tj but still had the highway up hill battles...
