Well you've got the largest alternator and best axle combo that were ever shippe in an XJ. Depending on what year your XJ is the California emissions thing could be a problem.

 

The bad, (CA. Emissions Package = poor performance everywhere else) not much you can do about it.

Good, it does have the Chy. 8.25 rear differential most likely the 29 spline and not the weak crappy D35 with ABS, all came with the D30 front.

Did you get the remote fob for keyless entry with yours? I didn't when I bought mine and had no idea it even had it till I got the build sheet. Then bought one from a dealer and had it programmed worked great.

You're good then. CA Emissions on a 1999 is just a single CARB-approved catalytic converter. When the time comes you can replace it with a standard/high-flow unit if you aren't in a CARB district. (Technically, that is. This should not be considered legal advice lol)

The real "problem" with CA emissions began in 2000 with a complex aftertreatment system comprising of 3 cats. 1999 has nothing to worry about.

Why is that a "problem"? I've had no issues with mine after 184K miles. All my emission components are still stock OEM.

 

As the miniature cats in the manifold accumulate more crud (like others the clog and wear out over time) their heat goes way up. This is what's causing issues with heat soak and boiling fuel in injectors. They're also pretty damn expensive to replace, especially if you're dealing with CARB.

CA. emissions crap ruined a lot of things for most of the US starting a long time ago when they forced car manufactures to new standards. That being fuel for one that robbed power and general engine design period. The younger guys won't remember when you could buy a real car without all this new crap on it and YOU could still work on it yourself. That's why I still build aftermarket block SBC's for big HP and would not live anywhere they plug anything into my exhaust to see if I pass an inspection or not.
