I came across a beautiful 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 141,000miles, No rust inside and out.. dealer is asking $4495..
Is this a good price or should I offer them a little lower.. I'm paying cash.
Thanks guys!

3500 would be reasonable. Have you checked the kbb value?

You can find one from a private owner on better shape and mods. I bought my 3rd xj 3 weeks ago lifted and a ll for 2800. Just wait on one. Don't jump on just anything.

If the dealer cleaned it up like a dealer should then I'd say go for it. I don't think that's a horrible price fir a dealer. Just make sure and look it over real well.

I picked up a 1997 sport 4x4 with 201k for $1400 in great shape and runs like a champ!! Id say thats a bit steep, but thats usually a given when dealing with a dealer, the 3500 range sounds fair

I also found a clean 2000 with 170K for $3000? Is 170K a lot of miles for this price? I'm also aware of the head cracking issues. If I do decide on the 2000 is it a good idea to replace the head with updated head before a over heating problem occurs? do people do this?

Thanks guys

3000 not a bad price. 170000 on these is like 70000 on most other vehicles.

Might be that odds are it should have cracked already. Maybe it did. Somewhere theirs a survey/wrightup on when they go. I didn't myself see anything on the % that DO crack. Just info on at what mileage.

I just bought one very similar in Aug for KBB. It was a small dealer and he had it marked at $4995. I told him I'd buy it right at KBB. He looked it up, said damn, and sold it to me for like $4400.....right on KBB. Mine is exceptionally clean, see the pictures.

It this one is that nice, you should buy it immediately. These usually don't last long on lots when they're really nice.

Drivers side top edge #s (copied from another post)

The heads that had trouble were the early #0331 heads (1999-2001WJ/TJ, 2000-2001XJ) before they were revised in late 2001 (revised heads have the "TUPY" foundry mark.)

1998 will have the #0630 head, which is typically subject to uncommon individual defects rather than a class-affecting problem.
