good oil to use?
The kind that lubricates. Cooking oil is not recommended. Personal products that use the KY label, also not recommended.

Brand is a personal choice. 5w30 to 10w30, as posted above, will work all year.

I send all my oil off and have it tested, so i know what i got goin on and if my oil works. A test isnt myth, its the only thing that lets you know if your oil is doing its job.

Considering where you are the 2000 owners manual calls for 5w-30 from 20 below to 100 above 0. as far as brand of oil use what you were using you do have 172k on it must have been doing something right? By the way Walmart has good prices for 5qt. containers my personal opinion goes toward valvoline

In no way can that be true, and your mechanics are retarded.

Yeah that is a myth as is if you change from dino to synthetic, it will start to leak. But as stated here, it does not make much sense to switch back and forth and as such I will stick with full synthetic.

I run Valvoline full synthetic. My jeep's reading 68k right now (It's a dream come true owning a low mileage XJ) and I plan on running full synthetic for the rest of the Jeep's life or whenever I decide to sell it. I've been running the same stuff in everything I've owned for a long time now and I believe that synthetic tops conventional when it comes to cleaning power and keeping oil from breaking down not to mention thickness for cold starting. I guaranteed my engine for the 300,000 mile warranty too so hopefully if I happen to ever throw a rod as a result of my motor oil, valvoline will help replace the 242 lol
