I try to keep it nice but it's pretty beat up already but it drives and runs smooth, my uncle has a 96 and his has a lot of problems, mostly cause he sunk it in a river and thanks I'm glued to this forum finding solutions to my problems.

Beat up just means plenty of room for improvement....start a list of what you want to fix, and tackle them as you can. I've been working on my XJ for 2 and 1/2 years, lifted on 35's with beadlocks, and a ton of other mods, and still have projects I wanna/needa do....have fun with it and def keep us all posted on your progress

If you spray your tail lights with satin black paint, no light will get through. Bad idea. Duplicolor makes a lens tint as well...

Although if you're parents won't let you lift it, I don't see them being crazy about tinted lenses.

Also keep your front sway bar on.

I agree with the maintenance part, learn it, do it, keep on top of it! Your parents will appreciate it more and you will show them you are working towards a goal. As far as that paint goes, just my opinion but its not worth the trouble. It fades out bad and likes to "crinkle" easily. Just buy a set of smoked covers if that's the look your going for. Watch out though I don't know how the cops are where your at but being sixteen they will look for any reason to pull you over....

How are your parents on trimming fenders?
And pulling off the plastic on the doors?
Maybe camo paint job?
Swap out doors for newer style windows?
New bumpers?
New tire rack?
31's?

Pretty Sure they won't let you disconnect the sway bars if they love you at all.

I will I want to do the rockers and put another roof rack on, my uncle sold his on me, I want to do removable doors and I'm in the process of taking out the rug and bed lining it. I want a new rear bumper cause I got rear ended by a friend that was screwing off. And when I convince my parents( actually my mom dad is on board) I want a 4.5 inch lift with 33 inch super swamp radials with cragar soft 8's

Have any of u done half doors on a cherokee because if so let me know how and pics. Also is it hard to drill the pins in the door and put other doors on so I don't always have half doors like during winter.

Don't tint your taillights or take your front sway bar off while on the road. And let's not turn it into one of those threads either.

I agree to do some routine maintenance and get everything up to speed. You'll learn a ton in the process. Even if you say it runs nicely, a coolant flush, an oil change, a differential fluid change and a tcase fluid change wouldn't hurt to do.

What is your current budget to put towards your XJ?

Rite now no more than 200 cause I just bought a snowmobile but this summer I'm picking up another job and that will be my xj fund

Before you make it a nice offroad vehicle, make sure its a great on road vehicle. Iron out every kink and get that thing to a sparkle. Then add parts and paint em as you go, its the best way to make things look fantastic and function well. I've had my xj for 3 years now, started at 16. I know the ambition you feel, but believe me, take the time to plan it out THOROUGHLY before you do anything. get all the parts, write down how you're going to do it, double check it. Ask people to make sure you're doing it right and that you have everything, then do it. The last thing you need to do is "wing it" and end up bass ackwards in a ditch or upside down. This forum is an absolute gold mine of information, and some of these guys have been wheeling longer than you or I have been alive. Take the time and listen, also dont be afraid to ask questions when they come up.

my favorite saying of all:

"a man who asks a question is a fool for a minute. a man who does not is a fool for a lifetime."

Happy trails.

It just so happens I am getting ready to do removable doors later this week/early next week, and will be making tube doors a bit later (just moved back to Cali from Texas, and need to get the bender up and running...just got the welder hooked up, YAY!) I will post some pics when I can, in the middle of re-painting my beadlocks now.

Keep us posted and take lots of pics I'm going to my local salvage yard to find 4 doors to cut up.
