This a good deal on a XJ please help first time XJ buyer
Looking to sell my jeep cherokee, it is a 1997 jeep cherokee XJ SPORT recent work that has been done is, brand new winter tires on stock rims, coolant flush, front/rear diff gear oil drain/replace, transfercase (ATF drain/replace) command start, sulvaynia headlights, interstate battery, front brake pads, aftermarket Bluetooth stereo, rigid 20 inch led light bar, also comes with 15/7 pro comp 52 series wheels wrapped with 31/10.5R15 Mickey Thomson baja claws, 3" pro comp lift kit, and this is a older vehicle so it has a little rust, and a few dings here and there, everything works great, reason for selling is because I need a truck,

Hi, interested in the jeep, just wondering If it needs any mechanical work at all now or in the future? has it been seen by a mechanic recently? I'd be a possible buyer in the next few days. Thanks
reply
"runs and drives great, all fluids changed out, coolant, brake fluid, diff oils, t case oil, engine oil, haven't done a trans flush but it's still good, honestly the only reason I am selling it is because I bought a truck, and I no longer need this"

I can't tell if you are selling a Jeep or are wanting advice on a Jeep you are buying.
I suppose I could puzzle it out if I made the effort, but why would I?

Well that wasn't very helpful Mark.
Looks to me like our Canadian friend is looking to buy a Jeep. The first paragraph was a copy/paste from the sale page
He then emailed the seller who then responded.
Anyway, I'm a bit of a noob ,myself Canada. Hopefully someone with a bit more experience will be along soon to help you out.
I see that it is relatively low mileage at 179,500 kilometers (111,536 miles). If it isn't too far away, perhaps you could take it for a drive and get a better idea of it's condition.

thanks Jimbo, sorry if my post was a bit confusing, jimbo is correct, i am looking to buy a jeep and it was a cut and paste of the sellers add, followed by a email I sent to the seller and his reply to me.
sadly it's not close by, i would have to take the bus about 10 hours to go see the jeep, so i would be going with the intention of buying unless something turned out to be wrong with it.
up here i will most likely have to travel to find the jeep of my dreams
it does seem like a pretty good deal to me, with low km's and already lifted and some other extras and supposedly in good shape. "supposedly" is what worries me.

The year is a good choice 97-99 and it appears to be in fairly good shape. One thing you need to ask for is detailed photos of the rust he speaks of and photos of the undercarriage frame/floor panels good photos of these are required and still require your inspection when you see it in person as you would with any XJ.
Price might be a little on the high side but that's something you could work on in person after you see and drive it. Call and talk to him about it and the issues that you wonder about. Remember CASH speaks in a LOUD, CLEAR VOICE not like paper checks and such where you can wave those bills in front of him and if you have too add a couple of more to close the deal. I always deal in cash, but in turn my .45 inside my belt is also with me all the time, I know that is not an option for you in Canada either.
Other than that go for it just pay close attention to detail's engine/trans/transfer case/differentials/brakes/cooling system then to the electrical sys.
Good Luck and let us know on what you find.

Ask him for pics of where the rust is.
Its nice that he has changed all the fluids out, but the issue with that, is you will not be able to tell if it has any issue, since the fluids will be nice and pretty.
Bring a stethescope (Get one at harbor freight for a few bucks), climb underneath and stick it on the oil pan to listen for rod knocks. check the cooling system components for any signs of a leak.
MAKE SURE you take it on the highway for a drive, to see if there is any death wobble.
10 hours is a far drive for nothing. Be careful if your bringing cash

If you can get it for closer to 4k, that would be pretty good. It's a clean looking Jeep, and as long as the rust isn't too bad, I'd say go for it. I paid 4k for my Jeep, and it's a 98 with 150k miles on it, and it came with a 3 inch lift and 31 inch MT's, just to give you some perspective. Good luck!

Are they generally more pricey in canada due to #'s made and desirability? I would imagine everyone and their brother would want one up there.
With that in mind, yes - it looks clean and is priced pretty fairly (for that area?) but closer to 4k would be nice. Around me (northeast USA) you can find that same Jeep for more like 2-3k depending on how desperate the seller is.

i spent 2 months looking at 97-99 XJs around central alberta and from what i found was 2500-3500 got you into a nice stock jeep or with a 3" lift and nice tires, most came with extra rims. that is a nice jeep indeed but the price seems somewhat high. if he would go down to 3500 then its more than fair. thats also a good year
