Default Is this a good deal? 98' Cherokee 4x4 Limited

I currently have a 94 Cherokee 4x4 2 Door SE, Lifted on 33s. It's the straight six, 5 speed manual. I'm trying to get out of it, I'd like something with a nicer interior and automatic. Mine also has some body damage. I picked it up for $1000 bucks this weekend.

I found this on craigslist today http://boise.craigslist.org/ctd/5747526214.html.
It's still available and I'm thinking about picking it up and selling my other jeep.

This one is totally stock and I'll have to put another $1200 or so into a lift and wheels. I'd be in total around 2700 on this Jeep for just the car and lift. Is this a worthwhile deal or should I wait it out?

First, all Jeeps are going to unload your money gun every chance they get (there are always new toys to buy, or mods to make, or things to improve upon). So make sure you get one that you like. Something that makes you happy. Anything less will probably make you resent it.

The ad doesn't list mileage or other factors. So only you could know for sure. But the condition of the vehicle is very decent. At least externally. From the very limited view of the underneath in the wheel pics, it doesn't appear to be a rust bucket. So provided that it runs nicely, and doesn't appear to have transmission or tcase problems, then I would say yes. It does look like a better than fair price.

Because this is a dealership, and they will ask whatever they can get. And because the mileage is not listed, my guess is that is what they will hit you with when you go to look at it. Probably has 250k miles on it. But if that is true, it looks like someone took decent care of it during that time.

Good luck. Let us know what happens!

Besides the few dents I don't see much wrong from the pics. Very nice looking XJ. But they're just pics... and it's at a dealer.

I'm taking jordan96xj's 250k miles and raising him to 300k on this one. The price is stupid low. There's gotta be more to this one.

They told me on the phone it recently had $1800 put into it. I asked what was done and the lady I spoke with said she doesn't know, I'd have to talk to another person. When I asked to talk to him, she said he was out on a test drive. I'm sketched out about it now, bummer though. Really liked this jeep. So clean

There is no telling from a few pictures.

Personally, I'd go look at it for sure. Just because it looks nice. All XJs at this point are going to need work (especially in that price range). Its just a question of what kind of work, and how immediate, and how expensive.

It means it's extry vaaalllllyooable!

I was reading down this thread thinking I was the only one who had caught that. Jimbo, you restored my faith in my fellow forum members.

What it really means is that the stealership has no clue what they have.

Tread lightly, but I would still go check it out. That's a great price, unless there is a major hidden problem

I noticed it too. I though it was double funny because either it truly has a 6 cycle engine, which would make it exceptionally rare...or...

They are talking about a motor that just counting XJs alone probably had 2 million copies on the road. (not counting the wranglers and grand cherokees that also used it). Very rare indeed. So rare that we can still get parts for it, from multiple providers, on Amazon no less.

Jeepin'_Aint_EZ,

I think we get some props for nailing the mileage down to +-30k between the two of us. Based on the fact that they didn't mention it in the ad.

I think if Kesey went in there with cash in hand and dropped some knowledge on the sales team he stands to walk out with a pretty good deal.

Provided that the Jeep isn't a total basket case to begin with. A thorough inspection will make the call.

Edit: By that I mean, if it doesn't have serious issues he could start at $900 and go no higher than $1200.

I think they'll sell for $1000. You know they only have $6-700 in it.

And tell them they can keep the dog... unless you really want a new dog too.

Only thing i can see the back seat looks like its leather but the fronts have seat covers on them.So i think the front seats leather is cracked, tore up.But to me for the price if it runs drives 4x4 works and not a rust bucket id buy it.And i believe that jeep has a small lift on it like 2 or 3 inches.

Offer them 500 and when they scoff, walk out. By the time you get home you should have several messages from them begging you to come back.

If not call them up the next day and offer them 600 and see what they say.
