Gone thru 5 ignition coils since Jan 2024 - Need help running the rabbit hole
SubscribeAs the title says, my 95 model year has been blowing thru ignition coils left and right. the short term fix has been just having a spare coil on hand. once a new coil is installed on the side of the road or in a parking lot, it does not always immediately start up. sometimes it takes a few minutes before it cranks again, which suggests to me its not necessarily the coils themselves.
to add background in case any of this jogs anything with someone; last year i replaced the o2 sensor, the tps, cleaned my throttle body and its associated components, replaced my cracked exhaust manifold, had my (bosch 4-hole) injectors professionally cleaned, and replaced some bad fuel injector harness plugs. this year when the ignition coil storyline started, i replaced cap, rotor, plugs and wires. the cap and rotor were in uncharacteristically bad shape, considering i keep up with my maintenance pretty well and do tune ups like that pretty often.
I dont know where to start troubleshooting this one, and wanted to see if i could get any direction here. How can i test that the coil is getting the correct voltage and amperage? what sends power to the ignition coil? What are some out of the box thoughts on what could be causing something like this?
