I went to the Jeep website, clicked contact us, then emailed Customer assist...

This a the part that got me... They said
"...In regards to your request for a build sheet, unfortunately this vehicle is too old and we do not have that information in our systems. Here is some information that maybe helpful."

My jeep is an 88, and i am confused on why i wouldn't be able to get a build sheet. Is there any other ways to get said build sheet?

And they said their was a recall, info to follow.

Just Received my build sheet, but then mine is for a 99! The recall is apparently for an interlock that does not work correctly, try checking for recalls on google for your xj.

I got one for my '89 a couple weeks ago... maybe '89 is the cutoff?

While Technically it is a Jeep, AMC owned the Jeep brand until '87 when Chrysler bought it. All the early models (any RENIX Jeep basically) are 100% AMC designs/productions. Not until the early 90's did Chrysler start becoming responsible for design improvements and, more to the point, identification/tracking of buildups/build sheets.

I hear that there is intermittent information on the RENIX years. Sometimes they have it, sometimes they don't. I think you are just one of the fortunate ones.

I sent a request for a build sheet for my '91 limited the other day. Someone posted a link to get a build sheet. I clicked on the link and entered my VIN and explained I wanted a build sheet. How long do I wait for this to come? Do they send it to you in the mail or e-mail it or how do you recieve it and how long til it arrives?

It would definatley help if we had an idea of what site you are talking about. also, I went to Jeep.com and had it with in a day...

Mine's an '89 and I didn't have any trouble with getting one. As for the recall, it's for the shifter being able to shift out of park without pressing the brake. Mine has the same recall. I myself don't care to have the dealership go through and possibly mess something up.
