Getting a near rear slip yoke (not eliminator)
Hello! I am getting a new rear slip yoke because I damaged mine trying to change my U-joints. When the new one comes in, does it matter how I put it back into the transfer case? I mean you’re supposed to mark it when you remove it, but now it’s a whole new part. Still new to XJ community so if this seems confusing, that’s why. Overall my question is does it matter how I reinstall it back in? Thank you in advance!
Putting the xfer or transmission in neutral will make it easier to rotate the shaft so it lines up right at the diff, btw. It's not truly required like the newer models with the external splines, but I still like to put a very light smear of bearing grease on the splines. Is the oil seal there in good shape? Now would be a good time to replace that.
Make sure you've got the parking brake on and chocked wheels please. I watched a guy pull the rear shaft and the vehicle started rolling. Thankfully no injuries.
