History first: 2001 Cherokee Sport all stock

April 2012: installed 3" lift with 31" tires, SYE, chipped it and installed a cold air intake

I use this as my daily driver (approx. 100 miles per day) and use to haul my 4000 pound camping trailer either in-state or out.

I have read that Cherokee's with towing package came with 3.73 gears

I do a lot of highway driving, so what's my best option...putting in 3.73 gears or 4.11's. My trailer, dry, weighs 3800 pounds. With the lift kit and bigger tires, the thing downshifts way too much (even without trailer); since I live in Colorado and there's no such thing as a straight level road or highway. Keeping gas mileage in mind (currently getting around 15 mpg), what would you recommend I go with?

 

4.11 with 31s.

Assuming it's an automatic... 4.10 will get you back to stock gearing ratios, but if you're going to regear it's such a hassle that you really need to think if you're going to go up in tire size again. Unless you can promise yourself you're going to be on 31s forever go for 4.56.
