Gearing and stock power band

Went to the first JY today. Found D30/8.25(29) in a 97 jeep with 3.55, but they are asking $250/axle. I think I can find a better deal.
Part of me wants to hold out and do 8.8 for disc breaks or keep looking for a D44. Part of me wants to do the easy route and get direct bolt ins since I don't have a welder or know how to regear myself.
I'll probobly stick with 31's, but how big of tire can you run on 8.25 (29 spline) with 3.55? Would 33's be ok ya think?
Also, is 3.54 close enough to match with 3.55, or is it a No No?

personaly I would find some 4.10 gears for the 33" tires
