Default Gear oil+ Lucas?

Hey guys,

I have a chrysler 8.25 with 4.10 g/r in the rear, no locker, and it whines and bit and sort of has a little ticking noise to it, almost sounds like a front lunchbox locker, my question is should I bump up the weight of the gear oil and add some lucas or just use heavier gear oil. If so what weight should I put in it. I don't tow a lot just normal driving and offroading.

Thanks!

You should get back there and find out what's making the noise and fix it, not try and cover it up with a heavier weight oil. 75w-90 is what you want if you arent towing anything

Good point, what would be things to look for other than wear and tear on ring and pinion.

Are you sure it's coming from the differential? And not from the rear drums? If you're sure it is coming from the diff, pop off the cover and see how many, if any, metal shavings there are in there.

I'm pretty sure its the rear diff. What would be causing the drums to make this noise?
