Default Gauges gone crazy?

My friend has a 96 Sport 4.0 4x4 auto. The temp and volt gauges are fine but all the other gauges are going crazy. When your going 5mph the speedo reads 75mph and when your going 50 the speedo reads 0.Tach goes all over the place and so does oil.It runs great and never stalss or anything.Runs like a champ .What could be causing the gauges to go haywire? Thanks to everyone for the help!

There is a common ground splice that feed the speedometer, the anti lock brake module and the IPC(instrument cluster) G117 on the engine block, the wire could be frayed with only on or two strands that can carry voltage. So look at the actual ground eyelet and trace the harness back behind the engine block for rub through and wire breakage

I was actually watching this post because my speedo acts like yours (just the speedo)
sometimes it will stick and then jump up to 75 when i am only doing 30, other times it sticks at 70 and i have to tap it to get it to drop to 55, other times it will go ALL the way around and get stuck under the little peg.
I used a magnent and lots of patience to get it to spin back around the first time then realized if i just get on the freeay and tap it, it will go back to 55 and track for a while.
I check ALL the grounds and cleanded the electronic sensor (plug and all) and it still does it, I am pretty convinced it is just a worn out motor behind the needle and i just need to get another cluster, just not important enough to prioritize above all the other stuff i want to buy and fix (like 4:10s in my 44!!)
hopefully someone has the great mystery figured out and will share with us, until then I just go with the flow of traffic and watch my tach!
