Sure enough it was there. Just unscrew it and snake some slack to the front of the vehicle and up through the firewall. Worked perfectly.

And for those curious about getting the right sensors (It was a heck of a time for me) the part numbers at AutoZone (Advance had to order theirs... but normally buy from them) is TU108 (Temp sensor/switch) and PS133 (Oil Pressure sensor/switch)

That pic was taken from my 87. The connection was located under the dash, mounted to the firewall behind the gas pedal. I think we are collectively finding that it is not as simple as pulling one cluster out and putting another in. What tcase do you have? Mine was N231, 4.0, AW4.

Mine is a 231 as well. 4.0, AW4. Mine has a gasket at the firewall and the cable is routed through it. The connection looks exactly the same just that it's right at the TC.

The cruise control wires are routed up to the front with the speedo cable, at which point they go their separate directions.

AMC was one you could count on to have a zillion different methods and parts, depending on the day. We have a 65 Wagoneer as well and the parts range anywhere from a 63 to 65, so you always have to compare parts.

I just had mine out yesterday. The wiring was no problem it was the one piece speedo cable that was hard to get off with the little room behind to get my hand in there

bad sending unit-or the wire is shorted to ground. Could also be wrong sending unit.

Question

brand new sending unit....the correct one.
the one from the donor jeep didn't work so I got a new one to be sure. I am going to replace the plug tomorrow. I got the one from the JY & the one on the XJ the snappy thing is broke. so I will splice them up.

Everyone else concurs with what you said. This discussion is also on a thread called oil press sending unit or something like that.

another comment was to ground the wire & gauge should go to zero.
thanks

NEWB here.
Just traded my 91 toyota mr2 for a 96 XJ 4.0 HO 130K.
Have a question regarding the two senders needed to purchase ( oil and temp).
Are the new senders specific to the year of the vehicle (96) or to the cluster ( 91-96)?

OEM PART #'s?

I've read the walk through DIY guides posted but no one points it out.
Just want to make sure I'm buying the right senders.

Btw, SO DAMN HAPPY WITH MY CHEROKEE...JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR MY NEXT PAY CHECK TO GET HER LIFTED A BIT.
Great forum you have here too.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I know when I broke mine they asked tons of questions - US model? Gauge? Light? all those things, maybe you got one that fits just not the right one.
