Default Gas tank skid install

I bought a Rustys tank skid for my 99xj but I never had the factory trailer hitch. Do I just snake the carriage bolts and plates through the frame rail? There are only two per side but the kit came with other bolts as well. The square holes for the carriage bolts are not centered in the plates. Which way do they go? Hole towards the gas tank or towards the fender?

Im not sure about lining up the squares but all the squares go in on the drivers side and the other bolts go on the passenger side. The passenger side should have a nut strip in there bc it is used to hold the exhaust hanger. Just have to clean them up a lot in most cases and they will screw in there. I personally bolted all mine in, then took them back out to install my hitch because they were all rusted so it took a while to clean them out.

Hmmm. Now I'm really confuzzed. There are four carriage bolts with plates and four other bolts, but the skid plate only has two holes per side.

Sounds crazy, and I might be wrong. But check on youtube, someone made a video on exactly what your talking about. It might still be on there. Hope this helps out.

It looks like I just need to use two of the four carriage bolts on the drivers side and the two other style bolts replace the ones used for the tailpipe hanger.
