so, I am wondering......true or false?
on my 91, if the fuel vent ( $11.00 at the dealer), is bad.....
Would this cause the awsomely terrible smell of fumes in the passenger cabin, when I get down to a 1/4 tank?
Think I posted before somethin about this and samoan pygmies with crew cuts, but not sure, an no one responded. (thought I'd throw the pygmies in there to see if anyone is reading!
).Been this way for a long time, no, not the crew cuts.
the gas smell...............
the fuel cap pressure when I go to fill up is incredible....I have to wait a good 40 seconds for the pressure to go down......if I try to open it all the way immediately, fuel shoots out its got so much pressure.
from the manual and reading other things this is a small valve thing located on top of the gas tank.
I just wanna be sure, if someone has had this problem before I go buy a part and do work I dont need to do,.....like drop a friggin gas tank.

or, if I can replace this part without dropping tank.
thanks for any input! It is appreciated!
cheers!

I don't know if the line does go to canister, I DO know I put a NEW charcoal canister in it and it helped for a few days, then the smell came back once again.
appreciate it!!!

Im not sure as I have yet to get that far into my cherokee but going by general vehicle set up, there is a fuel feed line, a return line and a vent line which if im not mistaken one way or the other makes its way to the charcoal canister.Originally Posted by xjchop
I thought the vent was attached to a hose that was pinned up under the floor pan.
The question would be would a blockage in the vent line cause high pressure in the tank ( makes sense to me ).

As I said I am not that familiar with the jeep fuel set up but assume that it can not be much different from any other vehicle.Originally Posted by cpnwrench

If there is a vent valve of some kind on the tank then I would say that there would be a good chance that it could be not functioning properly and at $11 would be worth changing just to be sure.
Im not a pro but have never heard of a vent valve so thats new to me.Let us know what you find out.

Never done it on my jeep, but on my 85 firebird when the vent went bad on it it shot fuel out of the tank when I opened the cap to fill her up. Same symptom you described. On my car I had to drop the tank to replace it but that was because it was above the axle. Im not positive on the jeep though.
