i was wheeling and did some uber damage to my gas tank. and lonf story short i decided just to put a whole new one in. my buddy gave me one off of a cherokee that is i believe is off of an 88 or 89 to go into my 91.
now it gets complicated, because the jeep this tank came off of had an engine swapped into it off of a 94. so i figured it would work in mine. it doesnt. my jeep climbs into about second gear then starts to backfire and act starved for gas. i think that its the wrong fuel pump for my engine, any thoughts on that? and if that is the case, will i just be able to get the proper fuel pump and put it into this tank? i cant imagine why it wouldnt fit. thanks guys.

As far as I know, fuel tanks were the same 84-96. So any fuel pump for any of those years, yours included, should fit.

Tanks changed in 97+ to the poly ones.

hmm ok. i thought that pre 91 engines were tbi. and my chilton book says that tbi fuel pumps were different because it uses totally different pressure systems.

IIRC,
Renxix/H.O. fuel tanks were 17gal/20gal; respectively.
