Hey everyone, just entered the jeep world after much searching for a starter project.

picked up a 1996 4.0L Inline 6 with only 109000 km's on it.

I have a question about the fuel pump, when standing at the rear of the vehicle I can hear a buzzing sound coming from the fuel pump. I can also hear it if I sit inside with the jeep idling. I did a fuel injection pressure test and it was normal with about 49psi.

Just wondering how loud a fuel pump for an xj normally is. Is it something I should think about replacing?

My first post as well. My 1996 does exactly the same and it's something I'd be interested in hearing is quite normal.

A buzzing sound from the fuel pump is normal...
But a loud annoying sound is definitely not...

 

I'd describe mine as very noticeable when standing at the rear of the vehicle. I don't know that I hear it inside, but it's definitely louder than other vehicles I have/had.

 

Eh mine buzzes but works just fine..
