Default fuel line Temp or can it stay?

OK, so today I went through hell to install a new fuel pump on my 90 XJ first time put in the new one hooked it all back up and car wouldn't start... Lame.. so then I went through the process again and made sure the pump was working this time before bringing the tank back up. Once I got it back of bolted in and all the hoses back on it started. On my way to get gas the car dies at a light I try to start it and hear honking. the person yells there is fuel leaking from your car. i hop out go look the main fuel line has busted. So I push the car to a parking lot and try to figure out what to do. the only idea i had was to use a washing machine hose being its Sunday and after 9 so everything is closed.. ill be honest the hose worked looks the same as the fuel line hose and even feels stronger. Im tired of messing with and smelling like gasoline. Can I just leave the hose on there, or do I need to go buy a fuel line hose??
