Default fuel economy / better mpg??

how can I get more mpg on my 95 XJ 4.0L??

besides of the obious:

tire presure
clean air filter
not to idel it for long
good driving (not steping on it)
make it aerodinamical (cant do much on a square suv with a tire on the roof lol)
keep it tune up
exhaust

any idea will be helpfull..

forget the TB spacer.

keep with the basics and master those. you have a very good list at getting the best MPG possible with your XJ, keep up with those things and you will do fine.

take the tire off the top.

run synthetic gear lube in the axles

synthetic axle lube really makes that much of a difference?

from what i hear you can get a 1-2 mpg gain. never tried it, but i guess its worth checking out.

cant take it off the top bc I need the cargo space for work...

right now im doing about 13mpg,, I want about 16 or 17mpg...

Get a lift and bigger tires. In all seriousness I was getting like 10-12mpg when my Jeep was stock about two months ago. Since then I have did a 2in BB 30's Surco Roof Rack and I am now getting 14-16 mpg. I plan on doing a tune up in about a week. We will see what happens after that.

that is true, however your spare up top is one of your main reasons for loss in MPG.
