I've heard the width is really close between a Waggy front D44 and an XJ front D30. You will just have to cut off the old spring pads and shock mounts and weld on all of the required brackets to bolt it into an XJ. Then of course you'd have to get different outer stub shafts if you want to retain 5 on 4.5 wheel bolt pattern. Waggys have 6 lug axles.

I am thinking really hard on doing the Waggy front D44 on my XJ, as well. What year of Waggy is it you're looking at getting the front D44 out of???

I will let you know how it looks when I get back! :-)

ok... its always a new box of worms :-) So what exactly does low pinion effect and what does it mean? I am going to put the ford 8.8 on the rear and I did pick up the Waggy D44 front..... what am I looking at as far as mods (other than the perch/mounts relocation).

What are you going to do about the lug pattern difference? You can get FORD F150 knuckles outward and have 5x5.5 in the front. Then not too sure about the rear if you use the exploder axle? Why not just find a waggy rear D44? That is what I am planning for my MJ. Good Luck

Not sure yet.. The 8.8 explorer rear end has the same bolt pattern as the jeep so I ham hoping to change the fronts to match.. not sure how though or what to use.. will the ford 150 match?
It would be nice to find a waggy rear and.. so far no luck ( I think I am going to name him (XJ) frankenstein lol)

Jax, the best I've found, so far, to get a HP D44 front with a driver's side diff. is to get one out of a late 70s F-150 or Bronco. Still going to have to strip the old brackets and weld on the required ones but, it will have 5 on 5.5 for lugs and it is high pinion.....and rigs with this front axle typically have a ford 9 inch rear axle to go with it.

I don't believe that they are full width. I've seen a set of these axles on an MJ once. With a little wider than stock flares they fit fine. I believe the MJ had Buchwackers on it.
