If u use hooks mounted to the frame rail ur just asking to rip they out! The rails in the xj r weak like a soda can, u would be better off mounting them on the stock bumper!!!

I cant mount them to the front bumper either, cuz they will rip out of that too. I have done it.

Quote: I was wondering if you can mount hitch hooks to the front frame under the bumper? I found them for $ 10.99 ea in 4wd catalog. It seems like it should work. Theres 3 holes in the side . Youd just have to turn them sideways and bolt them on , right?
Bad idea. Our frames are very thin and you need brackets that cover a larger portion of the framrail and uses more than a few bolts. Sorry man, that's just how the cherokees are. Wranglers have frames and can have them bolted on easily.

Spend the $$ and get the bracket/hook kit and be done with it. Or contact Mark at www.detoursusa.com and ask him to build you some brackets for cheap or buy his backbone system. it comes with a winch mount and two d-rings. Sweetness.

bad idea again cause that involves spending money.... better solution is yes mount to your frame, but fab up a little fish plate to pinch the frame with the bolts/hook. how do you think the hitch is mounted on that "weak XJ frame" duhhh
