Getting ready to do a complete front sway bar bushing kit on my 00 XJ. Going with the poly stuff.

I've done plenty of work with the Jeep and I'm a confident wrench turner.

Just figured I would ask and see if there are any inherent speed bumps with this job. Looks pretty damn straight forward.

 

it is exactly what you see. I prefer rubber, been there with poly..had sway bar rattle thinking I needed a front end. changed them 2 weeks ago and all is quiet.

 

4 bolts total. Bam done. It'll take you a few minutes

edit: Or are you doing links too? Then 8 total bolts and maybe 15 minutes total.

 

This^ unless your links are really rusty, in which case you may break them (every XJ I've owned did this)

 

Going to do the links. My current links look as tho they survived D-day.

Then you fail at removing bolts. LOLjk

I just replaced one of my links, soaked the bolts on the link in PB Buster for a few minutes, used a clamp to hold the gigantic Torx bolt (Dunno if 97+ has this same bolt) and used a cheater bar (AKA a 1inch wrench on my standard socket) on the nut.

 

Yeah, they've all got the Torx bolts on the axle bracket. The part I'm talking about breaking is the threaded portion of the sway-bar link itself. Michigan winters are not kind to exposed bolts lol.

 

The only problem I had was with the new sway bar end links. The new ones were bigger than the old ones. I could not get the original washers back on and had to use my own.

 

Im having nothing but problems doing mine I got everything bolted up and the sway bar links are hitting the coil springs. Anyone have any Idea what Im doing wrong?

 

Just did mine... went with Moog replacement links and bushings, dropped right in. I bought the Torx bit (60, I think), but ended up not needing it as the bolt just stayed in place and I was able to simply slide the link off of it. I did soak everything in PB Blaster for a couple of hours first.

One thing to watch; I have read somewhere that Chrysler used two different diameter sway bars, so be sure you measure yours before buying bushings.

Righto, SE, sport had a 25mm sway bar while the limited(not sure about the country edition) had a 28mm, 3mm doesn't like much but it does give a much more responsive feel and can make bushing not fit tight on the smaller ones and too small for these one

I just tried doing mine today... A bolt from the bushing bracket broke off. Now I don't know what to do or how to extract it. I tried drilling but.. it didn't work.

 

My 2001 SE has a 26mm sway bar.
