Unhappy Front OEM skid not fitting

Well, I was about to bolt up a front skid that my buddy got for me at a JY, and it seems like the holes for the bolts by the sway bar aren't threaded. Could this be a mess up at the factory, or just a case in which rust has completely covered the threads? I took some PB Blaster to them in an attempt to clear the rust, but it did nothing. I stick the bolt in and turn and turn with no luck. The frame seems to be pretty clean of rust, just dirty from road grime and various oil leaks. I was planning on bolting it on today so I can go wheeling tomorrow, but I don't think that's gonna happen now

I don't think having an 89 would make a difference, cuz weren't the skids available all years? I'm confused on why the bolt won't go into the frame.

I really don't know if they were an option. My 95 and my 98 didn't have one and I had no place to bolt one on them either.

That's really weird. The same guy that got me the skid put one in his 96 without a problem.

Yup, I ran a tap through mine. Took it to a friend's house to work on it. Tapped the holes in the frame, then drilled out the holes by the front bumper to let the studs through easier. Put nylock nuts with washers on that part, then just tightened the bolts in the frame down good. It feels like it stiffened up the front end more too. It needed a little convincing to fit it right since it was slightly bent, but it worked!
