Need to drive 1800 miles and my front drive line (shaft from transfer case to front axle) needs new u joints all around. It's like 260 bucks and I'm wondering if I can just take the shaft out and only run 2wd the whole way back?

Yes,you can drive with the front shaft removed. And, it's like $30 for new u-joints and like 30-45 minutes to change them (3 of them on front shaft).
