Default front drive shaft knocking

all right ive been chasing some front drive shaft issues for a week or two. made sure my pinion angle is right, and it has good u-joints. what i have noticed is that where the splines are there is a good bit of play. i can move the lower half of the shaft up and down.

i think this is where my knocking sound is coming from at low speeds.

any body ran in to this?

Yes, today in fact. Any shaft doing anything but going around has a problem. Mine was a plain ole' U-joint. $10 & 20 minutes. I think when a splined shaft wobbles those #'s go way up. Which one exactly? I'm sure somebody here can help.

drive shaft u joints are good, the shaft is original at 200k so the cv is not the best but is in decent condition. im leaning toward the play in the slip yoke.

Possibly a worn out centering ball in the double carden joint.
